In the book we can read about the adventures of a young captain of the ship "Pharaoh". The young man's name is Edmond Morrel. The late captain of the ship died while they were in their journey. Edmond is the new captain of the ship, and one of the sailors doesn't want him to be the new captain. He makes the police think that Edmond is a spy for napoleon. The police took Edmond to jail. Edmond is taken to the Chateau d'lf and locked up for many years. One day he starts to dig a tunnel through the walls of his cell. Later, he meets a man in the tunnel. The man was also digging a tunnel to escape the prison. Together they dig the rest of the tunnel. The man on the other side of the tunnel talks with Edmond and teaches him very useful information. Later, the man becomes very sick and he is about to die. He gives Edmond a paper before dying. Edmond hides in the corpse's bag and the guards throw him to the ocean. Edmond escapes and swims to a near boat. He discovers that the paper that the man gave him is a map for a treasure in the island of Monte Cristo.<קרא עוד...>
