List of Characters and a Description of Each: Ramon (a boy who earns money by hunting for pearls), Ramon's father (a great pear diver who was lost forever in a shipwreck), an Indian friend (who teaches Ramon how to dive for pearls), Gaspar Ruiz the Sevillano the (the only survivor of Ramon's father's shipwreck) and Manta Diablo (a giant manta ray who by the legend, is the protector of the black pearl).
The boy, Ramon Salazar is the son of a great pearl diver. Ramon is 16 years old and lives in a small town named La Paz (in Mexico). In this story Ramon is the main character, and he’s the one who tells the plot. Ramon is ambitious, brave, smart and reserved.
